CIO Darryl McGraw to be Featured in Computerworld Magazine

RALEIGH, N.C. (January 26, 2011) - Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott is pleased to announce that Dr. Darryl McGraw, Chief Information Officer for the college, has been named a Premier 100 IT Leader for 2011 by Computerworld magazine. Computerworld, a leading technology news source for IT professionals worldwide, gives the Premier 100 award annually for exceptional technology leadership, innovation, and management strategies. McGraw will be featured in the February issue of Computerworld.

"This award honors an elite group of 100 IT executives," said Scot Finnie, editor-in-chief of Computerworld. "These 100 men and women continued to innovate and deliver measurable business value, even in turbulent economic times. We're pleased to honor their achievements."

Dr. McGraw has been at the helm of Wake Tech's Information Technology Services Department since 2005. Under his leadership, wireless technology and state-of-the-art voice over IP telephones have been installed college wide, saving tens of thousands of dollars each year. His commitment to using "cloud computing" technologies, or virtual computer labs, has made specialized hardware and software accessible to more students. "We want to offer the best services to our students, faculty, and staff while keeping our operations efficient and our labor and equipment costs low," McGraw says.

Before coming to Wake Tech, McGraw served as Associate Vice President of Instructional Development and Technology for the North Carolina Community College System. He received an Associate in Arts degree from Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, NC, before earning additional degrees at Campbell University and North Carolina State University. McGraw retired as a Major from the North Carolina National Guard in 1997 with twenty years of service. He is active in the community and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Raleigh City Museum.
